Stairs perform the function of allowing the landscape to change in grade or to give access from the outside to the inside of a building.

Stairs are constructed by forming concrete or by using brick or stone to shape them. They are then usually capped by "treads" which are thinner slabs that form the walking surface.

Cobblestone or "Belgian Block" have been used for street paving for centuries and have now found their way into the residential landscape.

Brick Pavers are a very traditional material in New England as well. Many sidewalks in our major cities are made of brick.

Concrete Pavers (Belgard, Pavers by Ideal, Techo-Bloc) are a relatively new product. Their uniformity of size and variety of shapes make them an attractive, lower cost alternative to other materials.
